EU Referendum

A referendum on the U.K.’s membership of the European Union will be held on Thursday 23rd June.

The referendum question will ask voters if they wish the U.K. to REMAIN in the European Union or if they wish the U.K. to LEAVE the European Union.

Who Can Vote in This Referendum?

You can vote in this referendum if you are registered to vote in the UK, are 18 or over on 23 June 2016 and are:

·         A British or Irish citizen living in the UK, or

·         A Commonwealth citizen living in the UK who has leave to remain in the UK or who does not require leave to remain in the UK

·         A British citizen living overseas who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years

 

How to Register to Vote

If you live in Fife then don’t miss out – to make sure you can have your say you must be registered to vote. You can do this by registering to vote here by midnight on Tuesday 7 June, 2016.

****The Government has extended the deadline to register to vote in the EU Referendum following issues with its registration website. You now have until midnight on Thursday 9 June to register which you can do here****
 

If you are registered and eligible to vote in this Referendum you will receive a Poll Card. If you don’t or think you may not be registered it’s important to double check. Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this isn’t true. To make sure you’re registered call the electoral registration team on 03451 555511.

 

Voting by post

If you’d like to vote by post, or amend an existing postal vote you must do this by 5.00 pm on Tuesday 8 June, 2016.

Please note that you must be registered to vote before you can apply to vote by post.

If you've applied for a postal vote by 20 May you should receive your postal pack by Monday 6 June. If you haven't received your pack by Thursday 9 Junegive us a call on 03451 555522.

Applications for postal votes received after 20th May will be posted to voters on 14 June.

You should complete and return your postal vote as soon as you can. Your postal vote must be received by the Counting Officer by 10pm on Thursday 23 June, 2016.

Please note that if you have a postal vote you can’t go along to your local polling place and vote there on Thursday 23 June. However, you can hand your postal vote in to your local polling place on 23 June between 7am and 10pm.

 

Voting by proxy

If you’d like to amend an existing proxy vote (when someone votes on your behalf), you must do this by 5.00pm on Wednesday 8 June, 2016.

If you’d like to apply for a new proxy vote you must do this by 5.00 pm on Wednesday 15 June, 2016.
