Ethel and Les Foy Celebrate 30 years as Shared Lives Fife carers
In recognition of an amazing 30 years as Shared Lives Fife carers a celebration was held for Ethel and Les Foy. Ann Fernie, previous Manager of Shared Lives Fife presented Ethel and Les with a bouquet of flowers and a certificate in recognition of their long service at a small celebration event held at their home.
Ethel was a staff nurse at Lynebank Hospital before they decided as a family to support two ex-patients to move out of the hospital and back into the community. Over the years they have provided a home for many adults, particularly for those with learning disabilities.
Following in their parent’s inspirational footsteps two of Ethel and Les’ daughters are carers with Shared Lives Fife. Ethel and Les’ grandson also provides regular day support to help individuals to access their local community.
Ethel and Les said “We feel both pleased and privileged to have been a part of Shared Lives Fife for so long. Seeing first-hand the difference that the work has had on people’s lives and watching them grow as people. Coming into a home environment allows them to becoming more independent and enables them to connect with the community. We supported Kenny for over 20 years and it was very rewarding to include him as part of our family.”
Suzanne McGuinness, Team Manager of Shared Lives Fife said “Ethel and Les have had a significant impact on many people’s lives. They have shown dedication to improving the lives of others and providing care and support for those in need. Shared Lives would like to thank and recognise Ethel and Les for their dedication and service.”
