Today (Monday, 9 September) Woodmill’s Department of Additional Support (DAS) moved into their new base at Blairhall Primary School and Blairhall pupils transferred to classrooms at Tulliallan Primary.
As this last cohort of Woodmill High School pupils settled into their new surroundings, Fife Council’s Chief Executive, Steve Grimmond extended his thanks to West Fife’s school communities, partner organisations and staff across the council who have supported their relocation.
“The response to the situation at Woodmill has proved once again what a great place Fife is; full of community pride and spirit,” Mr Grimmond said.
“I have been so impressed by everyone’s determination and generosity.
“Today I must particularly thank the parents, pupils and staff at Blairhall Primary School for letting us use their facilities to help some of our more vulnerable young people. I know the DAS families are extremely grateful for their support, as am I.
“Of course, thanks go to the communities of all our host schools around West Fife for being so welcoming and helping to make sure that all our young people have access to their education.
“I’d also like to publicly thank staff across the many council teams who have worked so hard to get us to this stage, as well as our partner organisations and local suppliers who have also gone above and beyond to help.
“While getting our young people back to school was the first critical step, the work doesn’t stop here. Following the Scottish Government’s funding announcement last week, we are already working to develop proposals for the long-term future of Woodmill and St Columba’s RC High Schools. But we’re also focussing on a medium-term solution to bring the Woodmill community back together as soon as possible.
“I know parents and pupils are keen to understand what the next steps will be. As are the community groups who used Woodmill as a base for sports, learning and other activities.
“Unfortunately, it’s still too early for us to provide answers. But, as we learn more about the condition of the Woodmill building we’ll be appraising all our options and we’ll keep everyone updated.”
