Community Councils

Community Councils are made up of people who care about their community and want to make it a better place to live. You can access a list of current Community Councils in Fife here.

As well as representing the community, Community Councils facilitate activities which promote their communities and bring local people together to help make things happen. For more information click here.

Community councils are elected every 4 years.  The last community council elections took place on 4 October 2018 with the exception of St Andrews, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday 21 March, 2019.

Elections for those areas that don’t currently have a Community Council will also take place on the same day should residents submit a petition to re-establish one. Petitions have been received from Cairneyhill, Leven, LochgellyStrathkinness and Windygates and therefore an election for each of those community councils will also take place on 21 March.

There are currently no active Community Councils in the following areas and, as yet, no petitions have been received:

  • Auchmuty & Woodside
  • Bennochy & Hayfield
  • Blairhall

If anyone is interested in re-establishing any of these Community Councils they will need to organise a petition and get it signed by 20 electors (people who are on the electoral register) from the community council area.

The petition should be submitted to the Head of Democratic Services, Fife Council, Fife House, Glenrothes, KY7 5LT by Friday 18 January, 2019 at the latest. A template petition is available here.

Please note that, if you are not currently registered to vote but wish to stand for election, or propose or second someone else to stand, then you need to register to vote by Thursday 10 January 2019. You can register to vote online at the Government Individual Electoral Registration website
