Occupational Health and Health Surveillance
Occupational health risk generally concerns employee ill-health caused or made worse by work. Poor workplace controls can cause a severe and life-changing condition or disability, and may arise from an acute (sudden) cause, or (more often the case) from cumulative effects over time, leading to a chronic condition.
Occupational health risk is relevant to many of the Council’s work activities and must be given proper consideration at Directorate and Service-level via health and safety risk profiling and risk assessment processes.
Occupational health risk issues include:

- Musculo-skeletal disorders
- Work-related stress
- Occupational asthma
- Noise induced hearing loss
- Occupational dermatitis, sensitisation or other skin disorder
- Respiratory damage, asthma or sensitisation
- Hand-arm vibration syndrome
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
