Food waste bags

What is provided?

From April 2018 we will no longer be providing a delivery of food waste bags through letterboxes to all householders in Fife. Food waste bags are however available from Recycling Centres and some Community Centres, Community Use Schools and Customer Service Centres listed below. Householders can collect up to 3 free rolls of food waste bags every 12 months.

The East Fife Mobile Library provides 1 roll of food waste bags. See when the East Fife Mobile Library is near you.

Is there anything else I can do to wrap food waste?

Yes. You can use newspaper or paper bags to wrap your food waste, or put food into the brown bin loose especially dry foods such as bread.

Or you can buy food waste bags not provided by Fife Council. These can be used in our system provided you see the compostable symbol below. This will ensure that the bags will compost in our Anaerobic Digestion Plant and create compost. Most 7-litre compostable bags fit into the food waste caddies provided by Fife Council. The bags purchased for Fife Council are 200mm (bottom) x 390mm (top) x 360mm (length).

Are any further changes planned in the future?

We are looking at other ways of providing food waste bags to householders. Any changes will be advertised this on this webpage.
