Landlord Accreditation Scotland Training

Landlord Accreditation Scotland

Landlord Accreditation Scotland (LAS) is the national accreditation scheme for Scottish landlords & letting agents, promoting best practice in the private rented sector by offering training and education across the country.

LAS was launched in 2008 in partnership with Scottish Association of Landlords, Scottish Land & Estates and the Scottish Government as a voluntary scheme set up to promote and support letting agents & landlords in Scotland by accrediting their property management skills.

What LAS provide

Landlords and letting agents can access information regarding the private rented sector from many different sources. However Landlord Accreditation Scotland provides information based on Scottish legislation and best practice within the industry.

Becoming accredited, along with regular attendance at courses and information events, provides landlords with knowledge on key issues and how to implement change when required, ensuring they have the confidence to conduct their business in a professional manner.

How to become an Accredited Landlord Today?

Landlord Accreditation Scotland is a voluntary scheme by which landlords can assure tenants that the tenancy arrangement they have adheres to the high standards as outlined in the Scottish Core Standards for Accredited Landlords. It is also a means for quality landlords operating within these standards to receive the recognition and support they deserve.

The standards were designed to be reasonable and realistic; landlords who already carry out good management practices will find themselves well on the way to achieving them. Once accredited you are required to attend one of the LAS Core Standards training session annually.  Courses are available around the country throughout the year.

You can apply to become an accredited Landlord by completing the online form here or by requesting an application form from the LAS office.

Universal Credit Roadshow

The Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL) in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), invites you to book to attend one of our roadshow information sessions all about universal credit.

Whether or not you currently have tenants in receipt of benefit, any tenant’s circumstances can change and you may not be aware until they are already in the universal credit system.

Additionally many more tenants are on universal credit than were on housing benefit so more landlords are part of this system than ever before.

Having correct, up to date information before you are in this common situation for landlords may prove to be very useful in future.

The aims of these sessions are to:

  • bust the myths about universal credit
  • advise landlords in supporting tenant claims
  • help landlords safeguard rental payments

There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the DWP representatives as well as of SAL chief executive John Blackwood who will be your host for each event.

The events are free of charge however booking is essential as numbers are limited by venue capacity. See below for details of these events and booking information.
