Graffiti

Graffiti can be offensive and ugly, and can really affect the local area. It can be described as

• the defacement of property
• a form of vandalism
• a crime
• in some cases, street art.

The presence of graffiti adds to an atmosphere of neglect and can increase the fear of crime and reduce perceptions of safety.

Whether the graffiti is on council or private property, you can report it:

  • at your Local Services Centre
  • call the Graffiti Removal Line on 03451 55 00 22

If you telephone, an operator will ask for some details about you, the graffiti and its location.  As graffiti can be treated as a crime of vandalism or malicious damage, you will be asked if you give consent for the information to be shared with Police.  We need as many details as possible about the graffiti, but you can choose to remain anonymous.

The operator will then forward the details to the relevant service to get the graffiti removed.

All offensive graffiti – when motivated by prejudice or hate on the grounds of age, disability, gender racer religion or sexual orientation - is removed within 48 hours.
